St Mary's - An Institution for Holistic Education

Religious Instruction: Being a Christian Institution, the classes on Christian doctrine (Catechism) are compulsory for Catholic students. All students of other faiths must attend classes of Value Education, which deal with moral principles, values and rules of conduct. A student must strive to attain qualities of mind and heart and integrate these into his life: virtues such as honesty, sincerity, piety, compassion, generosity, love for nature and self-reliance.

CSE (Comprehensive Sexuality Education): CSE classes are held weekly. These classes are vital for students to develop a holistic appreciation of themselves, physically, psychologically and sexually. They also learn to appreciate that everyone else is also in their own phase of transition and they learn to respect others and maintain healthy boundaries. Parents are urged to broaden their appreciation of sexuality and be an example of healthy and positive use of language, behavior, relationships and use of media especially mobile phones.

Counselling Services are provided by the school to the students who are identified as needing such services. Parents will be informed of the same by the respective member of the staff. Parents who feel their children need such services are to contact their son’s class teacher and request for the same. The request will be evaluated and a decision will be taken regarding the same and communicated to the parents.

Co-Scholastic Activities: The student’s personality, initiative and originality are given full scope in co-curricular activities and by involvement and participation in youth movements, sports and games. Students are encouraged to take part in elocution, singing, dancing, dramatics, quizzing, debating, public speaking, the organization of inter-school events and the participation in inter-school events. In so doing the students develop their varied abilities and hone their confidence and social skills.

Physical Education: Provision is made for games and sports activities. When a pupil is required to take part in such activities, participation will be deemed compulsory by the school authorities. Parents must encourage their children to try their abilities in various games. Physical exercise is a healthy break and keeps the body fit. Those with talent in various games should develop these skills. Participation in sports and games is not a distraction from studies and a reasonable time each day should be set aside for physical exercise.

House System: We endeavor to infuse our students with the spirit of camaraderie, cohesion and competitiveness. Every student is initiated into one of the four Houses and is gradually introduced to the ethos of the institution. Each house has a House Master and / or a House Mistress to whom he may turn for assistance at any time. A number of academic, co-curricular and sports activities are based on inter-house competitions.
