Description: A comprehensive workshop on Child Sexuality Education (CSE) was recently conducted for teachers by the CSE animators, Mrs Amrita Mukherjee, Mr Ivan Saldanha and Mrs Rumeli Dasgupta, on 14.5.25 and 15.5.25,drawing from their intensive training at St. Columba’s School, Delhi, and insights gained from previous workshops. The session aimed at empowering educators with the skills, sensitivity, and understanding required to navigate conversations around sexuality, safety, and well-being in age-appropriate and respectful ways. The training emphasized that teachers play a crucial role in creating safe spaces for children and adolescents, helping them understand their bodies, boundaries, emotions, and rights. The facilitators led the session with empathy and clarity, covering essential topics such as: • Understanding child development and stages of curiosity • Difference between healthy and unhealthy touch • Recognizing signs of abuse and how to respond • Fostering gender sensitivity and respect • Role of schools in preventing abuse and promoting safe environments • Guidelines as per POSCO Act and school policy integration The workshop involved a mix of interactive discussions, case studies, and scenario-based role-plays, helping teachers engage with real-life situations and reflect on their responses. Special emphasis was laid on non-judgmental communication, active listening, and age-appropriate vocabulary. The animators also shared key takeaways from their training at St. Columba’s School, Delhi, particularly the importance of building trust, collaborating with parents, and integrating CSE into the broader life skills and values education curriculum. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where teachers expressed their concerns, shared classroom experiences, and appreciated the practical tools provided. Participants left the workshop feeling more confident, aware, and committed to ensuring that every child under their care feels safe, understood, and respected. This workshop was a timely and necessary step toward strengthening our school’s commitment to child protection, inclusive education, and the holistic development of our students.
